About Sign Language Course

Sign language is a language that uses the visual-manual modality to convey meaning. Sign languages are expressed through manual articulation in combination with non-manual markers.

Sign language should not be confused with body language, a type of nonverbal communication. Sign languages convey much of their prosody through non-manual elements. Postures or movements of the body, head, eyebrows, eyes, cheeks, and mouth are used in various combinations to show several categories of information, including lexical distinction, grammatical structure, adjectival or adverbial content, and discourse functions.

This course deals with the following topics:

the concept of sign language, its advantages, disadvantages, uniqueness, and the considerations that need to be taken for those who learn sign language for the first time. It also gives an idea about the concept of fingers alphabet and the Arabic numbers, the skills and technicalities of performing them, the rules that should be followed when practicing the finger alphabet, giving an overview of the chapters of sign dictionary, and performing some of its chapters using sign language.

It also tackles the manner of employing body language when communicating with the deaf, showing the significance of body organs in delivering sign meanings for the deaf, coaching the trainee on some of the sign performance technicalities that need to be considered when communicating with the deaf, showing the anatomy in sign language and how it is different from the Arabic language, and giving some of the differences between the syntactic rules in both sign language and the Arabic language.
